Slight Update

I realized how delusional I was when filling out my travel authorization forms and saw that I was declining lodging expenses for two nights in a row. I decided I'd really like a bed and a shower at least one of those nights, so now I'm still leaving Sunday night, but I'm staying Monday night in Paris. Now I can have a nice "last meal" before Malabo. It works out well, because I'll still end up catching up with the rest of my team during their Paris layover on Tuesday. Our flight into Malabo has been delayed for runway repairs, but only for one hour. Construction being timed to the hour? I'll believe that when I see it!

An update on Malabo; someone told me it was wise to bring your own sheets. Not that our $240/night hotel doesn't provide them, just that they might not meet your standards of clean. So we went to REI last night and I got a sleep sack like people use for hostels, a chamois-like bath towel (it rings out 90% dry and has its own loop to hang it on, say, a shower rod), and these cute little pucks that unfurl into semi-disposable towels/wash clothes. I also got no-rinse shower wipes. I'm not going to get a shower Monday, so I'll just have to clean up in a public bathroom. I suppose I could go native, seeing as I will be in France, but I think I'll stick to the American fastidiousness! The wipes have specific instructions to use all 8 of the wipes in the package, and even break it down by body part. Seems they don't want the person with no sense washing their face with the same one they just used on their butt! :)
