Rolling Thunder

My first excusion with my new camera was to go into the city for the Memorial Day "Rolling Thunder" Motorcycle rally. Here are my pictures! I let the camera do most of the work in selecting the apertures and shutter speeds this time. As it becomes more second-nature, I'm sure I'll be able to change settings without missing shots. Today I mostly worked on creating interest through where I chose to focus. The only thing I regret about my day was that I didn't get a hot dog. I couldn't cross the motorcycles to get to the other side of the street where the vendors are. Oh well, I got an oreo shake from Potbelly instead! Now I need a nap!

Busy Busy

Lots going on the next couple weeks!

1. Tomorrow, I'm going to go down to the Mall with my new camera to take pictures of the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally.

2. On June 2, I'm going to run in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. 5K (just over 3 miles) is farther than I have ever run in one...um...sitting? If you'd like to donate, see my page. I'm running with a group from work called "Young Professionals for the Cure". I was hoping we could work a boob pun into our name, but got overruled. Either that, or I wanted to make shirts that utilize my frequent spelling error: "Fight Beast Cancer!"

3. On June 10 I'm going to San Francisco for 3 days. Our meeting agenda didn't work out to my advantage, so I will get home Wednesday night and have to turn around and fly back to Seattle on Friday afternoon. At least now I won't miss the last day of my French class--we're having "petit dejeuner" together!

4. Oh, and I'm going to Seattle! I'll get to see my friend Anne and document her swelling cankles with my new camera before she has her first child. Should be a fun long weekend of a little sight-seeing, seafood, coffee, and foreign films.

New Camera

I got my new SLR last week. It's a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI. I also got one prime lens, an EF 28mm f/1.8. I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but here are my first pictures. Click on Stampy's skeptical face, below, to see! I'm a loser and used autofocus on these--I'm not done reading the instructions and my photography book!
